Golf performance · Iron Gang Fitness

We train the athlete.
You keep the swing.

Your swing is a skill. We build the body underneath it: the rotation, the power and the durability to execute what you are already being taught.

Somewhere in the last few years

You did not lose distance. You lost the body that produced it.

The back nine got longer. Your lead hip stopped rotating the way it used to, so your lower back quietly started covering for it, and it did a decent job right up until it did not. You warm up more than you ever have and it helps less. The driver that used to be automatic now depends on the day.

Or it is sharper than that. A shoulder that complains on the follow through. An elbow that starts arguing every time you hit off a mat. Something in the low back that shows up on the drive home and is gone by Tuesday, which is exactly why you have not done anything about it.

The swing did not break. The engine did.

What you were told

Push through it. Warm up better. Play more golf.

None of that is a plan. Pain is a stop signal, and "it only hurts sometimes" is not a green light, it is an earlier warning than most people get.

Nobody raises this with you before it tears, because golf culture only talks about the body after something has already gone wrong. We start there instead.

Why it keeps happening

Golf fitness sold you a costume

Walk into most golf performance programs and you will find a resistance band, a golf posture, and a movement that looks like a swing performed slowly in a room with rubber flooring and no ball. It sells because it looks specific. It fails because specificity was never the same thing as usefulness.

This is the uncanny valley of golf fitness. Close enough to the real swing to feel purposeful. Far enough from it to be useless, and occasionally worse than useless, because you are now rehearsing a pattern under load that your body cannot yet produce cleanly. Best case, the gym version and your real swing quietly drift apart. Worst case, you have grooved a compensation under load, and it shows up exactly when you cannot afford it.

Then there is the screen. Cones, bands, a scored battery, a printout telling you which box you failed.

Screens measure how good you are at doing the screen. Practice the reach enough times and the number improves whether or not one thing changed inside your body. The test got smarter. You did not.

None of this was your fault. It was confident, it was everywhere, and it looked like science.

The argument

Your swing tells us where your body runs out of room

We watch you swing and we ask what you feel, and exactly where. Not to score it. To find the physical limits it is already working around.

Where the hip stops rotating. Where the rib cage stops moving and the shoulder starts stealing rotation from somewhere it should not. Where the sequence falls apart once real speed enters. That is a list of physical problems, and physical problems get solved under load in a gym.

We do not coach the swing. That is your swing coach's job and we work behind him.

What that turns into

The things that were missing

Hip and thoracic rotation you can actually reach. Power your nervous system can produce on demand rather than hunt for. A spine and a set of joints that tolerate eighty swings and four miles of walking without filing a complaint on the drive home.

Let the golf training happen at the golf course.

How we find it

Two assessments. Neither one gets skipped.

One tells us whether you are safe to train like an athlete. The other tells us which part of that athlete golf is currently exposing.

Layer one

General movement screen

Triage first, because pain and red flags get sorted before anything else matters. Then breathing and pressure, structure, rib cage position, hips and core, dynamic movement, gait, asymmetry. This has nothing to do with golf yet, on purpose.

Layer two

Your actual swing

Watched, not scored. Where sequencing falls apart under speed, and where you report pinching or catching. No cones, no battery, no number to beat next quarter.

Then

Load, on the gym floor

A body that cannot hinge safely cannot hinge safely for golf either. A program that only watches the swing is one bad rep from a very expensive lesson in why general competence comes first.

2
Assessments, every golfer
One general. One golf specific.
0
Swing lessons given
The lesson tee stays the lesson tee.
3
Programming stages
Competence, power, autonomy.

Both sides run

Speed on one side. Pain on the other. Most people need both.

Power and speed

Medicine ball throws, jumps, sprints, loaded carries. Explosive, athletic, and still nowhere near a swing pattern, because the goal is output your nervous system can point anywhere, not a rehearsed imitation of one movement.

  • Rotational throws at intensities that actually build power
  • Jumps and sprints for output, not for looks
  • Loaded carries and bracing under fatigue
  • General patterns: squat, hinge, push, pull, rotate

Pain and recovery

Triage runs before any loading decision gets made. Once it clears, the corrective work is specific to what your assessment actually showed, not a page of golfer's stretches copied out of a pamphlet.

  • Golfer's elbow: grip and tempo first, then load through the pattern that provokes it
  • Guarding shoulder: rib cage and thoracic work to give the rotation back
  • Progress tracked against tissue response, not a calendar
  • Clinician restrictions respected, and referrals welcome

Programming stages

Three stages, not vibes

Where you start depends on what the assessment found, not on how long you have been playing.

01

Competence

Figuring out what the hell you are doing

Fundamental patterns, minimal variety, lower intensity. Quality is the only metric that counts. If your assessment flagged a limiter, it gets fixed inside this work rather than bolted on as a golf exercise. A hip that will not rotate cleanly gets hip mobility work. It does not get a weighted swing pattern designed to force rotation through a joint that is not ready for it.

02

Power

Suspiciously functional

Power and speed enter. Jumps, throws, sprints, loaded carries, built on general patterns rather than swing shapes. This is the stage where club head speed tends to show up on its own, which surprises people who expected to earn it by swinging something heavy.

03

Athlete

Autonomous

Fundamental patterns automatic and reliable under fatigue. Full exercise menu, real periodization, real load. At this point you are an athlete who happens to play golf, which was the point from the first session.

How you train with us

Three formats. Same standard.

Every format runs the same assessment first system and the same coach. What changes is how much of the week happens in the room with us.

Flagship

60 minute personal training

One hour, one coach, one plan built from your assessment. Programming adjusted every session against what your body shows up with that day, not what a spreadsheet assumed three weeks ago.

Shorter clock

45 minute personal training

The same coaching and the same programming on a tighter clock. Forty five minutes does not mean less coaching. It means less of everything that is not coaching.

Remote plus in person

Hybrid coaching

A plan built and adjusted by a coach, run mostly on your own schedule, with scheduled in person sessions to check form, load and progress. Built for people whose week occasionally catches fire.

Every format includes a direct line to your coach between sessions. No app chatbot, no ticket system pretending to be a relationship. Rates depend on the format, how often you train, and the term you pick. Ask below and we will send the full sheet.

The details

Tell us what is going on. We will send the rest.

Full rate sheets for every format, and a straight answer about whether this is the right fit. No call required to see a number.

This is where the sheets go. We do not run a newsletter.

Optional, but it changes what we send you. Plain language is fine. If nothing hurts, say that too.

Sheets go out the same day. If what you wrote needs a real answer, you get that too.

What lands in your inbox

The rate sheet for each format you asked about. Session length, what is included, every frequency and term, and what each one costs per session. No ranges, no starting at, no call to unlock the number.

What the first session is, if you come in

An assessment, not a workout. Triage first, then breathing and pressure, structure, rib cage position, hips and core, dynamic movement, gait, asymmetry. Then we watch you hit a ball and you tell us what you feel. Bring the clubs you actually play and shoes you can move in.

60 to 75 minutes No screening battery Clinician referrals welcome

Who this is not for

If you need this handled before a member guest next month, we are the wrong call and we will say so in the reply. Rotation and power come back over weeks, not days. We would rather tell you that now than take three months of your money finding out together.

Stop being the weak link in your own swing.
